Governor Barchok wants special schools allocated more funds

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has asked the government to increase funding to special schools in the Country.

Barchok observed that the move will enable the schools run smoothly and complete their projects on time.

Speaking at the Korara Special School in Bomet East, he lamented that the cost of braille, hearing equipment and other materials is high.

According to him, learners in special schools have numerous needs, and it was wrong to treat them equal with their counterparts in normal schools.

“Learners in special schools have numerous needs. It is therefore wrong to treat these children equal with those in normal schools,” he said.

He rooted for thorough assessment of People With Disabilities to establish the extent of disability, a move he says will inform capitation disbursement.

Barchok promised to ensure infrastructure to all special schools in the region are friendly user to the learners, adding that the rights of the children should be given priority.

“We have several schools in our county most of whose infrastructure are poor. As a county, we shall allocate funds to make the infrastructure disabled friendly,” added Barchok.

Special schools grapple with understaffing, with pressure mounting on the government to urgently address the problem.
