Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has commissioned a new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) block at Ebusambe Primary School in Khalaba Ward, Matungu Sub-County, marking another step in Kakamega County’s push to improve learning for young children.

The facility, officially opened on February 2, is fully furnished and designed to meet the needs of early learners. It has classrooms fitted with child-friendly furniture, two teachers’ offices, a store, washrooms, a modern kitchen and a 5,000-litre water tank to support hygiene and daily school activities.

County officials said the new block will ease congestion, improve safety and create a better learning environment for children at the foundation level.

The Ebusambe project is part of a wider county programme that has seen 61 ECDE blocks constructed across Kakamega. The initiative targets increased enrolment and better retention by ensuring children begin their education in well-equipped and supportive spaces.

The event was attended by Members of the County Assembly led by Majority Leader Philip Maina and Khalaba Ward MCA Bonface Osanga. Also present were CECM for Education Dr Bonface Amwayi, Matungu Sub-County Director of Education Christine Owino, county officials, parents and learners.
