Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja has hinted that the county seeks to give prominence to sciences, assuring a promising future packed with lots of opportunities for students with science and engineering skills.
Samboja announced that the county has benefitted from 15 scholarships for science and engineering students courtesy of a partnership between the county and the Government of Algeria.
“Algeria ambassador to Kenya has assured me the courses will be fully paid for up to Phd. The only requirement is for students to score a B plain and above and win a one way ticket to Algeria which is only Sh40, 000”, said Samboja.
The Governor challenged learners in the county to be bold and take up science and engineering courses.
He further adviced those who will be lucky beneficiaries to save the county the agony of brain drain by “returning home after finishing their studies.”
He said the county will seek to bolster high skilled homegrown manpower and “I will personally go out of my way to get more scholarships to ensure that local students benefit”.
At the same time, parents were advised to ensure that they play their role in facilitating their own children’s education by meeting extra costs that may not paid by the National Government.
Speaking elsewhere at Eldoro Girl’s Secondary School in Taveta Sub-County during an Education Day, CECM Education and Libraries Daniel Makoko Mwakisha emphasized that investing in children’s education was key in ensuring that human resource was being developed in the county.
