Governor Fatuma Achani has called on Kwale youths to embrace technical and vocational education as a pathway to economic independence and self-reliance.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony held on June 17, 2025, at Matuga Technical Training College, Governor Achani emphasized the county’s commitment to empowering young people with practical skills that match current job market demands.

The event marked the graduation of 60 trainees who had completed courses in plumbing, electrical installation, mechanical work, and hairdressing, also featuring the official launch of the “Tujiajiri na Tandaza” program, a joint youth empowerment initiative between the Kwale County Government and the KCB Foundation, designed to support job creation among youth.

As part of the ceremony, the governor handed over business startup kits to the graduates to help them launch their own enterprises. These tools were provided through the KCB Foundation’s Tujiajiri initiative, which works with counties across Kenya to provide skills training and startup capital to young entrepreneurs.

“We are investing in practical skills that match today’s job market. This is how we fight unemployment and poverty,” said Governor Achani.

She further noted that technical training offers an alternative route to success, especially for youth who may not pursue university education.

The governor also highlighted Kwale’s ongoing investment in vocational education, including a Sh30 million TVET Fund established by her administration. So far, over Sh20 million has already been disbursed to support students in 43 vocational training centers countywide. The county has also equipped the centers with modern tools and qualified instructors to improve learning outcomes.
