President William Ruto has announced the release of KSh44 billion to schools to facilitate the smooth transition of 1.13 million learners from junior to senior school in January.
Speaking during a church service at Covenant Church International in Rotian, Narok County, the President assured parents that the funds had already been disbursed and would be accessible before schools reopen. He emphasized that no child would miss the opportunity to advance to senior school under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
“I want to assure parents across Kenya and all stakeholders that we have made adequate arrangements for schooling in the next year. No child will miss the opportunity to go to senior school in January,” he said.
The Head of State, accompanied by Governors Gladys Wanga and Ken Lusaka, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina, MPs, and MCAs, highlighted the government’s investment in education infrastructure and staffing. He noted that by January, the number of teachers hired since 2023 will reach 100,000, while 23,000 classrooms have already been built. Construction of 1,600 laboratories is expected to be completed by March 2026.

“We have hired the largest number of teachers in Kenya’s history; we have built the largest number of classrooms and addressed the confusion in Competency-Based Education and Training,” Ruto said.
The President dismissed claims that the education budget had been reduced, urging politicians to avoid propaganda and instead present clear plans for the country. He challenged his competitors to account for their leadership track records, saying Kenyans cannot afford to waste time on leaders without tangible achievements.
Beyond education, Ruto outlined broader development initiatives. He said the government has established the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund to accelerate growth and transform Kenya into a first-world economy.
President Ruto also urged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority to benefit from Universal Health Coverage, stressing that no citizen should be forced to sell property to pay medical bills.
On Narok County projects, the President announced the handover of the Mau Forest title deed to the county government and ongoing plans to fence off the forest to end its politicisation. He further revealed that 10,000 acres of Kedong land had been returned to the community for allocation to residents.

Governor Lusaka praised the President’s development record, stating that the country is witnessing an unprecedented transformation. Governor Wanga added that ODM is committed to working with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance under the broad-based government to ensure inclusive growth. Senator Ledama ole Kina echoed the sentiment, affirming ODM’s support in line with the wishes of former leader Raila Odinga.
