Over 200,000 students who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2020 have received their colleges and universities placements.

The 265,145 students will pursue degree and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses in the 2021/2022 cycle.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha said 137,072 students will pursue TVET courses   while 128,073 students will pursue degree courses.

He noted that candidates who qualify for university admission are increasingly embracing TVET courses despite having attained grades to join university.

“6,617 students who attained C+ and above in last year’s KCSE chose TVET programmes and were placed, an increase from 2,632 in 2019. The good performance they demonstrated was indeed merited.” He added.

The CS noted that out of the 10,437 secondary schools that were registered as examination centres in 2020, only 2,506 (24%) submitted their KCSE candidates’ choices.

He was speaking today during the release of the 2021/2022 students placement  into universities and colleges under the government’s sponsored programme.

Prof. Magoha also directed Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to conduct the Inter-Institution transfer process online from September 1st to September 30th, 2021 and to continue with the mobilisation and recruitment of students for placement to TVET institutions.
