The declaration comes as the nation continues to mourn Raila following his death in India earlier yesterday at the age of 80.
The public holiday is expected to give citizens a moment to reflect on his long political journey and his contribution to Kenya’s democracy and governance.
This comes after President William Ruto announced a seven-day national mourning period, during which the Kenyan flag will be flown at half-mast in honour of the former Prime Minister.
He added that the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader will be accorded a state funeral with all attendant honours.
