The government through the Ministry of Education and department of basic Education has directed the Teachers Training Colleges, (TTCs) principals not to admit students outside the KUCCPS placement list.

This was communicated in a circular released on June 26, 2025 and signed by the Basic Education Principal Secretary, Prof. Julius Bitok.

“This is to inform you that only candidates placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, (KUCCPS), will be admitted to Public Teachers Training Colleges,” reads part of the circular.

It further read, “The purpose of this circular therefor is to inform you to stop admissions done at the college level (walk-ins)”

In the universities and colleges placement results released yesterday, a total of 11,636 students have secured placement into teacher education programmes through KUCCPS.

Of these, 10,800 students have been placed in Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, while 836 will pursue Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education. The total capacity for both programmes was 13,823.

The surge in applications follows recent reforms by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform, which revised the minimum entry requirements to teacher training colleges (TTCs), helping boost enrollment in the 33 primary TTCs across the country.

The teacher education placements form part of the wider KUCCPS placement outcome where 310,502 students were placed across universities and colleges.
