Goseta Boys edge Kwanza to lift sub-county football trophy as Kwanza Girls dominate

Goseta Boys' football team presented the championship trophy to the school administration during this morning’s assembly.

Goseta Boys defeated Kwanza Boys 2-1 to emerge champions of the Kwanza Sub-County Secondary School football tournament, held at Kwanza Girls Grounds, Trans-Nzoia yesterday.

Kwanza Boys, under the coaching of Peter Nandabi, took the lead in the sixth minute of the first half through Jesse Chepkoech. Goseta Boys, coached by Geoffrey Murunga, equalised in the 24th minute through Timothy Kibet, before Bethewel Brown scored the winning goal in the 90+1st minute.

In the girls’ category, Kwanza Girls, nicknamed “The Queens of Kwanza,” proved their dominance by thrashing Gidea 9-0 in the finals and retained their Kwanza Sub-County crown at the same venue on Saturday.

Kwanza Girls under head coach Ruth Nyongesa’s side set a remarkable record, scoring a total of 73 goals and conceding only one from the zonal to sub-county levels.

In other matches, St Andrew’s Baraton Girls under Rhoda Nandabi defeated Konoin 6-0 in the Kiminini Sub-County girls’ final held at Weaver Bird Grounds in Kitale.

Defending champions of Trans-Nzoia County and the Rift Valley region, St Joseph’s Girls “Joga”, thrashed St Veronica’s Chebukaka 11-0 to retain their title at Top Station Grounds in Kitale. Meanwhile, Wiyeta Girls overcame St Francis Suwerwa 2-0 in the Trans-Nzoia East finals held at St Mark’s Cherangany on Saturday.

Trans-Nzoia County and Rift Valley region defending champions, St Joseph’s Boys, beat Bishop Glowery 2-0 in the final held at Kitale School in Saboti Sub-County.

Former champions St Anthony’s Boys continued to reign in Kiminini after overpowering Kabuyefwe 3-0 in the final at St Anthony’s Grounds in Kitale.

In the Trans-Nzoia East boys’ final played at Kipkeikei Grounds, Bwake Boys edged Kipkeikei 1-0 to lift the trophy. After a long period of dormancy, coach John Mukongolo’s Bwake Boys are now back with a bang.
