Good progress on CBC classrooms project in schools, says Magoha

The government is delighted with the rate at which construction of competency based curriculum (CBC) classrooms in primary and junior secondary schools is moving.

Speaking at Mahiga Girls High School in Othaya, Nyeri County, the education cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha elicited confidence that the government will beat the deadline of the first week of March 2022 if the construction work continues at that pace.

The government rolled out the construction of Sh.8 billion CBC classrooms to facilitate 100 percent transition for learners in primary and junior secondary schools.

Prof. Magoha urged schools which are still at the foundation stage to increase their pace so that the completion of the projects can be hastened.

The CS had visited Mahiga Girls School to lay a foundation stone for the CBC classrooms as well as to monitor the implementation of Elimu scholarship programme.

Magoha said 31 schools in Nyeri County have started the construction of CBC Classrooms.

The County is estimated to have a total of over 570 primary schools and over 190 secondary schools.

He also toured Ithekahuno mixed day secondary school in Tetu where he inspected the construction works of the same projet.

The CS revealed that in Kilifi the construction of 144 classrooms was ongoing which stands at 100 percent and the same percentage applies to Siaya County, Keiyo North Sub-County and Nandi South sub-County.

“One classroom in Ugunja sub-county in Siaya County which the ministry has been monitoring since inception has already been completed, while many others are on the roofing stage in the area.

“I am not worried about those who have declined the contract because they are less than one percent and my instruction is that if a person is still dilly dallying, take the contract and give it to another person who has done a better job,” he added.

The CS also said his ministry is working closely with that of Interior to ensure security is beefed in areas facing insecurity challenges across the country to ensure the same does not affect the smooth running of examinations.

He assured all learners that the exam and the exam environment will be friendly as all the considerations have been taken into account.
