Unlike in previous years, rural schools, especially day and mixed schools have made significant strides by registering a large number of candidates who will join university.
An example is Matunda Salvation Army Mixed Day Secondary in Likuyani Constituency, where the deputy principal, Mary Sifuna, stated that 195 candidates who sat for 2024 KCSE will join university, a significant increase compared to previous years.
Other encouraging results come from Seed Secondary School candidates, who hail from poor families in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, as explained by the deputy Principal, Rodah Sitati, along with candidates Joice Lukale and Francis Karenga.

Sallyne Nyongesa, the Principal of Immaculate Mukuyu Girls’ School in Cherangany, speaking to Education News after her school recorded outstanding KCSE 2024 results for the first time, said the mean grade improved from 4.22 in 2023 to 5.1, with more than 19 students out of 90 candidates qualifying to join university.
