The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Investment Trade and Industry, Moses Kuria, has asked parents to encourage their children to enroll in local Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to acquire technical skills to enhance their employability.

He asked Secondary school leavers and University graduates to take advantage of government scholarships to advance their skills and competencies.

“We are in the world of advancing technology and this calls for our youth to embrace technical education to enable them fit in the demanding job market,” he said.

The CS, who was addressing residents when he launched the construction of the Industrial Park at Tongeri in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, thanked them for welcoming the project because it will improve the standards of living.

Kuria said that the government is determined to construct County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP) to spur economic growth across the country.

“We intend to erect an Industrial Park in every county to enhance the quick growth trajectory in our country,” he said.

The CS revealed that the programme is a farmer-centric and export-oriented approach to enable small-scale farmers and producers to contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He was flanked by Kisii County Governor Simba Arati, Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri and the CEC for Trade and Industry Stylus Nyabicha among other leaders.

Arati said that the establishment of the Park in the area was a blessing because the government will use its economy of scale to expand and improve infrastructure including roads, clean water and electrification.

Banana trader Vicky Onderi said that the Park is a model cottage industry and asked residents to embrace it to boost rural development.
