Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has asked the Teachers Service Commission to increase the salaries of teachers as well as their benefits.
Speaking to the press in Bungoma town during the union’s elections that were held at Bungoma Red Cross office, Ronald Tonui KUPPET National Assistant Treasurer, who is also the Bomet Central MP, lauded Bungoma county union officials for having conducted peaceful elections and retaining the officials that were in office.
He assured teachers that the union will fight for their rights, especially the classroom teacher to get a salary increment of 50 percent.
“I am very grateful to have seen the union grow stronger in Bungoma, this is the way to go, I plead with Bungoma branch officials to represent teachers well,” he added.
He said, teachers should be entitled to risk allowance, medical cover and harmonized house allowance, adding that teaching is the best profession that moulds the society and should be supported fully.
