Foundation donates sanitary towels to schools for better education

Girls miss school at least four days in a month due to menstruation thus affecting their studies and education in general.

This was revealed by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services Mrs. Maureen Limashep.

Speaking during distribution of dignity pads to girls at Marigat Primary School, in Baringo South Constituency, the county official lauded Meridian ID under program dubbed ‘‘Days for Girls” foundation for their pivotal role in addressing the plight undergone by girls in their quest for their studies.

While highlighting challenges faced by schoolgirls among them teen pregnancies, early marriages and Gender Based Violence, the CECM noted that county government has been on the front line in supporting efforts to realize their dream in education.

She asked the girls not to shy away from their menstrual periods but speak about it since it was a natural experience.

The CECM said her docket was fully committed in supporting girls across the county especially from schools in far-flung areas.

She challenged other organization to champion the course to reverse the trend where girls’ education is jeopardized in the regions affected by rampant banditry and retrogressive harmful practices and cultures.

Women Development Centre Representative Milka Jerotich lauded Meridian ID through ‘‘Days for Girls’’ through Jenifer Cox Foundation for countrywide distribution of washable pads in schools.

Mrs. Jerotich reiterated that girls from humble background and remote areas risk dropping out of school due to challenges faced during their periods.

The organization however had opportunity to offer menstrual hygiene, sexual reproductive health and life skills on defense tactics in case of rape cases and human trafficking.

Marigat School Head teacher Mrs. Maria Kipsoi thanked the organization and county government for identifying the school to benefit from dignity pads.

She added that provision of pads and intense teaching on adolescents, reproductive health and tactics in case of rape was timely in regions prone to such vices.

They also said widows in Conflicts areas extoled significant strides made by the CECM Mrs. Maureen Limashep in addressing the plight of women in warring communities citing that widows bear the brunt of raising children and supporting their education.
