In a significant step towards empowering the youth through practical training, Giathugu Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Rugi Ward, Mukurweini Sub-county has received a boost with the donation of motorcycles and a motor vehicle to enhance its driving school program.
The handover ceremony, held at the institution’s grounds, was graced by Nyeri Deputy Governor Kinaniri Waroé, who served as the chief guest.
The Deputy Governor commended the initiative, calling it a “timely and transformative intervention” that aligns with the county’s broader goal of strengthening technical education.
“This gesture is aimed at supporting the growing driving school program and equipping our youth with practical, employable skills. These are the kind of investments that open doors for young people and transform communities,” the donor remarked during the event.

With increasing demand for competent drivers in the transport sector, the donation comes at a critical time for the institution. The new resources will not only enhance the students’ training experience but also prepare them to meet real-world challenges in the job market with confidence.
Giathugu VTC offers a broad range of courses including fashion and design, beauty therapy, electrical engineering, hospitality and driving. Its comprehensive curriculum ensures students graduate with both technical knowledge and practical competence.
In a notable collaboration, the KCB Foundation has stepped in to support 61 students at the institution through fully-funded training programs. This partnership has enabled students from underprivileged backgrounds to access quality technical education and pursue brighter futures.
“This initiative reinforces the transformative power of vocational education,” said Margaret Macharia, the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Training, and Devolution. “When we invest in skills, we invest in people—and that is the foundation of sustainable development.”

The event was attended by key stakeholders and community leaders, including Hon. Cyrus Ngure, Member of County Assembly for Rugi Ward and Charles Wamatha, Director of OMWASCO. Their presence underscored the importance of collective efforts in promoting youth development.
“We must continue creating platforms where skills create solutions,” noted Hon. Ngure. “This is not just a donation; it’s a stepping stone for young people to take charge of their future.”
As Kenya continues to embrace the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) model, institutions like Giathugu VTC are becoming vital centers for nurturing industry-ready graduates. The support from the community and private partners demonstrates a growing recognition of the value of vocational education.
With enhanced training tools now available, students at Giathugu VTC are on their way to becoming the skilled professionals Kenya needs. The message was clear: equipping the youth with practical skills is not just an investment in education—it is an investment in the future of the nation.
