Infrastructural challenges have been cited as a major issue that is hampering the strategic goals of St. Anthony Boys High School, Kitale that is in Trans Nzoia County.

Simon Masibo, the principal of the school which has earned accolades in the academic and sporting arena said the school is in urgent need of housing units for teachers.

“The school has only three staff quarters yet there is a huge population. This makes it a challenge for teachers to run programmes that go into the night,” said Mr. Masibo.

The administrator was speaking during the Annual General Meeting at the institution which saw the 2022 KCSE results celebrated. The institution registered a mean of 10.3.

The principal called on donor institutions to give them a boost as they seek Ksh 62 million to set up a 10 unit staff quarters to address the challenge since parents alone cannot manage.

Other targeted infrastructural development is the setting up of a dormitory that the Kiminini NGCDF kitty committed to award Ksh 10 million towards the cause.

The chairman of the Board of Management of the school who is the head of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, Bishop Juma Odonya, called for concerted efforts among education stakeholders to boost standards.

“The partnership of teachers, parents, students and other stakeholders is very key in having better standards,” said Bishop Odonya.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya who was the chief guest at the event said his administration has a plan of setting up a classroom in every big school in the region to accommodate local students.

“We are aware of the fact that the best schools in this region have an enrollment from across the country and we wish to support them to host our students,” said Mr. Natembeya.

The East Africa soccer powerhouse registered a new mark in its history by having the rugby team qualify for the nationals set to be held in Uasin Gishu County.

The school’s current form four class nicknamed “connect” has set sights on achieving a mean score of 10.5 in this year’s national examination.
