Residents of Garissa and Tana River Counties have been urged to take their children to school in order to end the marginalization in the counties.

Garissa municipality CEO Abdi Ole Hussein said education of children is the key to better life. Hussein expressed concerns that cases of children roaming the streets of Garissa town during school days are disturbing.

He urged leaders from both counties to administrate the relocation of street children to school after the one week holiday break.  Ole Hussein, a former head teacher expressed concern over the low number of students in public schools in Madogo in   Tana County

Speaking to Education News in his office in Garissa town, he called on parents to stop hiding behind the excuse that children shouldn’t go to school because there are no jobs.

‘Job markets have gone global and many students are also finding jobs outside the county,’ Hussein added.

He noted that cases of child labour and child marriage cases from the  neighbouring counties were caused by parents  and guardians allowing  their children to roam  the streets freely.

According to the CEO , the biting drought in North Eastern has led to the massive rural urban migration thus causing the influx in town.
