Garissa authorities launch probe after pupil dies, 3 teachers admitted

The Police and Health officials in Garissa County are investigating a suspected case of food poisoning at Durte Primary School.

This is after a schoolgirl died on June 17 while undergoing treatment in Dertu dispensary while three teachers were transferred and admitted at Garissa county hospital following intense stomach complications.

According to reports, the school deputy Head teacher was first informed that a 33-year old female teacher was found lying unconscious in her house within the school quarters and rushed her to the hospital.

On his return, he found two more teachers and the girl unconscious. The girl was the daughter of the teacher who was first taken to hospital.

The health officials arrived at the school and picked up samples of the food the victims had eaten and proceeded for analysis.

The body of the girl was moved to the area mortuary pending autopsy.
