From West Pokot to CUEA: Alvin Simiyu’s love for English becomes his ladder to success

Alvin Simiyu was born in West Pokot County and started his early education at Town View Academy in Kapenguria.

In classwork, he was excellent, consistently ranking among the top on every exam.

At school, he liked speaking English thanks to the school guidelines, which clearly specified days for English and Kiswahili.

During debates, Alvin was among the top contributors, which clearly sharpened and refined his English.

After excelling in the KCPE Examinations, Alvin received a call letter to join Litein Boys High School in Kericho.

At Litein High School, he continued sharpening his spoken English with the same spirit.

He received several academic awards for topping in English and being the finest contributor in debates.

Like son, like father, Alvin is the son of Ainea Simiyu, the renowned Academician and long-time Education Officer in West Pokot and Turkana counties.

Simiyu is famous for his fluent Spoken English during teachers’ workshops and forums.

To crown it all, Simiyu’s family is well-versed in the practice and teaching of the English Language.

Rose Simiyu,  a tutor, was the pillar of the English Department at Chesta Teachers Training College in Pokot Central Sub-County, West Pokot County.

Currently,  Rose is the principal of Galib Lityei Secondary School in Kapenguria, West Pokot County.

She also oversees proper teaching and the implementation of the English Language, along with other subjects, in the school.

Alvin Simiyu graduated with a degree in International Relations from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa on October 24, 2025, in a colourful ceremony at the main Campus in Nairobi.

On October 31, he was awarded a certificate in a colourful ceremony at Gaba in Eldoret City.

“I cherish the English language because it’s a means of communication internationally, ” said Alvin.
