A Junior Secondary School teacher, Wilkoda Chebet Cheruiyot, from Chemamul Comprehensive School in Bomet East sub-county, Bomet County, has authored an inspiring book titled ‘From Streets to Stars’, a moving story that celebrates resilience, faith, and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
Set against the backdrop of rural hardship, the book tells the story of a young boy born in a humble village whose family is forcefully evicted from their ancestral land.
Left homeless and destitute, he ends up living on the streets, where he faces hunger, rejection, and hopelessness. Yet through unwavering faith, determination, and the kindness of strangers — particularly a compassionate politician who sponsors his education — the boy rises from despair to success.

The story mirrors the struggles of many children across the country who, despite being born into poverty and uncertainty, hold great potential within them that is waiting to be nurtured. It is a message of courage and hope that reminds readers that humble beginnings can lead to remarkable destinies.
Speaking ahead of the official launch, Mrs Cheruiyot said she drew inspiration from the real-life experiences of children who overcome adversity to pursue education.
“I wanted to write a story that speaks to the hearts of both young people and adults — a story that shows that where there is faith and kindness, transformation is possible,” she said.
The book is written in a simple yet powerful narrative style, making it suitable for learners, teachers, and general readers seeking inspiration.
It promotes values of empathy, perseverance, and community support, encouraging society to look beyond one’s circumstances and focus on potential.
The official launch of From Streets to Stars will take place on 2nd November 2025 at Famous Gate Main Hotel in Bomet, where education stakeholders, teachers, students, and members of the public are expected to attend.
Mrs Cheruiyot’s work stands as a testament to the power of education, compassion, and determination — proving that no beginning is too small for an extraordinary destiny.
