From grazing goats to earning a PhD: KNUT Turkana chairman Dr Kenyaman inspires a generation

As a young boy, Erion’goa Kenyaman used to graze his father’s livestock in Turkana County, but later decided to go to school because the area chief was very strict with parents who did not send their children to school.

Later, he joined Eregi Teachers Training College.

After that, Kenyaman joined Egerton University for the Bachelor of Education (English and Literature) Course.

Later on, he enrolled at Mount Kenya University for a Master of Education degree, specialising in Planning and Administration.

He then enrolled in the Master of Education (MEd) programme at MKU and graduated with a degree in Monitoring and Evaluation.

Driven by his deep thirst for education and a desire to solve the challenges facing his county, Kenyaman enrolled at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Evaluation. His doctoral research focused on “Summative Evaluation of the Pilot Phase of the Child-Friendly Schools Programme in Turkana County, Kenya.”

On October 24, 2025, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Evaluation.

On October 31, 2025, he received his certificate during a colourful ceremony at CUEA Gaba Campus in Eldoret.

Kenyaman is truly a Kenyan, having taught for 32 uninterrupted years in Turkana County.

“Let us go to school and get educated so that we can uplift the standard of living of our people through the knowledge and skills acquired,” said Dr Eriong’oa Kenyaman.

Dr Kenyaman is the current KNUT Branch chairman in Turkana County.

During the colourful occasion, he was flanked by Dr Charles Kisigot, a TSC employee in Uasin Gishu County, and Mr Daniel Chelanga, the KNUT Chairman in Marakwet County.
