Late football coach Justin Okiring, remembered for his contribution to women’s and community football through teams such as Trans Nzoia Falcons and Wiyeta Girls.

The football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Justin Okiring, a respected coach who led Trans Nzoia Falcons, Bishop Muge School, Tartar High School, Brenda Girls Misikhu, and Wiyeta Girls football teams.

Okiring was reportedly attacked by unknown assailants near the Trans Nzoia–West Pokot border on Saturday evening.

He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital in Kitale for treatment, where she later succumbed to his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the attack are currently under investigation by local security authorities.

Okiring had a long and impactful career in women’s and community football.

During his tenure with Wiyeta Girls, he led the team to several notable successes, including trophies at regional competitions such as the FEASSSA Soccer Girls tournament — achievements that put the team among the most respected women’s sides in the Rift Valley region.

Friends, former players, and football fans across Kenya have taken to social media to express their shock and grief over his passing, remembering him as a passionate coach and mentor to young athletes.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and the wider football community. Justin’s dedication to the sport and his role in nurturing talent will be deeply missed,” said one supporter.

Members of the coaching fraternity and regional sports officials have called for enhanced protection for sports personnel working in rural and border areas, highlighting the risks faced by those promoting grassroots sporting activities.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward as investigations continue.
