Kakamega county Governor Fernandes Barasa has named St. Joseph’s Boys High school Kitale Principal Godfrey Owori as his Education Executive Committee Member.
He also nominated former Chebuyusi High school Principal Dr. Boniface Okoth to the County Secretary and Head of Public Service position.
Owori also headed St. Peters Mumias before he was transferred to St. Joseph Boys Kitale. His nomination has stirred joy and optimism in education circles with many alluding that the educationist will be able to move the County education sector to the next level.
On Wednesday, November 9 the County chief named his County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and his chief officers, a majority of whom made up his political allies who helped him clinch the then competitive gubernatorial position.
The names of the two and many others who were named by the governor will be presented to the Kakamega County assembly this week for vetting by Members of the County Assembly before approval.
Governor Barasa dropped all CECMs who served in Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s administration.
He also appointed his Deputy Ayub Savula to oversee the department of Trade, Industrialization and Tourism while Former Cabinet Administrative Secretary of Agriculture Lawrence Omuhaka will head the Public Service docket.
Others are; Kakamega ODM chair Mophat Mandela (Social Service, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture), former Health CECM Peninah who will head the department of Lands and Housing, Livingstone Imbayi (Finance), Rachael Caro (Communication and ICT), Dr. Bernard Wesonga (Health), Mariam Barasa (Water) and Patrick Wesonga (Roads).
Benjamin Andama was awarded the department of Agriculture whereas that of Lands, Housing, Urban areas and Physical Planning will be headed by Peninah Mukabane.
