Former Bomachoge Borabu Member of Parliament (MP), Prof. Zadoc Ogutu, has condemned the poor state of educational infrastructure in the constituency, blaming it on governance that lacks clear priorities.
He noted that most primary schools are understaffed and have inadequate classrooms, forcing pupils to share overcrowded spaces, a situation that hampers effective learning.
“As an educator, I am disappointed by the way national resources are wasted here without benefiting our pupils or providing them with quality education,” he said.
Prof. Ogutu, a long-serving politician both nationally and internationally, said he had envisioned establishing at least two centres of academic excellence in each of the constituency’s four wards. However, the project stalled after a new regime took over following the 2022 national elections.

He was speaking at his Nyakorere home in Magenche Ward, where he hosted South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Zaheer Jandah of Nyaribari Chache, and Kisii Women Representatives Dorice Aburi and Jerusah Momanyi.

Ogutu appealed to residents and scholars in the region to unite and support the government of the day to accelerate development in the constituency.
In a thinly veiled endorsement of former Chief Principal of Cardinal Otunga Mosocho National School, Albert Ombiro, Ogutu said he will back a visionary leader who can drive development in the region.
“I served you well during my tenure, and I am considering coming back to the constituency by supporting a popular leader who is already in government. Opposing the government will get us nowhere,” he said.

Sylvanus Osoro, the parliamentary Chief Whip, thanked Ogutu for his willingness to work with the government and hinted that Bomachoge Borabu will secure a leadership slot at Kisii University’s Nyangweta Campus, set to open next year.
“Professor Ogutu is a seasoned scholar who stands at the crest of scholarly matters in this country,” he said.
The outspoken MP further revealed that he had requested Kisii University to allocate five acres of its 55-acre Kegati campus to establish a medical college in Nyaribari Chache Constituency, instead of relying on a stalled project at Ibeno Ward, which has been delayed for over ten years due to land disputes.
“I have asked the university to give us land, and they have agreed. Wait and see, people of Bomachoge. Follow the clear current of leadership and you will get more support from the government, just like other constituencies,” he said.
