Former KNUT boss welcomes education sector reforms

Former KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion. He has lauded the reforms going on in the education sector as beneficial to all.

Former KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has welcomed the ongoing reforms in the education sector, expressing confidence that they will benefit learners and ensure 100 per cent transition to university and other post-basic learning institutions.

Speaking in Bomet, he argued that the new education structure is easy to follow and enables students to focus on knowledge, skills and competencies.

“The ongoing reforms will ensure 100 per cent transition to colleges and universities. Unlike other systems, the new education structure is easy and enables students to focus on skills, knowledge and competencies,” he noted.

Sosion also allayed fears and confusion surrounding the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), pointing out that the curriculum has been reviewed in accordance with UNESCO guidelines.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about CBC. Some individuals for their own reasons have been spreading lies about the curriculum. CBC has undergone review as outlined by UNESCO and there is no cause for worry among parents and as an educationist I fully support it,” said Sossion.

He further dug into the bulk SMS system that the KNEC uses upon release of exam results, saying it is a money minting plan where they get upto Ksh100 million from students.

He expressed confidence this year’s exams administration will be more organized, saying SMS charges have already been abolished.
