Form one student in Tharaka Nithi dies after fight with classmate

A boy from the school died while undergoing treatment for injuries he sustained from a fight with a colleague. The other boy is admitted at the hospital where the deceased was receiving treatment with grave injuries.

Grief engulfed Kiriani Boys High School fraternity in Maara Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, after a form one student died after a fight with his classmate.

The boy died while undergoing treatment at PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital where he was rushed following a violent altercation in the dormitories just moments after Friday evening preps.

The school Principal Ben Masila said the boy succumbed to serious injuries he sustained during the fight.

“Today is a dark day for Kiriani Boys High School. Am sorry to report that we have lost a form one student who was undergoing treatment at PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital. This follows a fight that took place on Friday night in the storey dorm after the evening preps,” said the Principal in a WhatsApp message to teachers.

He said after the fight the duo was rushed to hospital, noting the other student is still receiving treatment at the same facility.

“Two form one students fought and sustained serious injuries. Teachers and I rushed them to hospital and doctors did a good job. However one boy passed on,” said Masila.

However sources familiar with the situation have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the school’s handling of emergency protocols during the incident.

They allege that the school principal failed to promptly arrange for medical assistance using a fully equipped emergency vehicle and opted to instead transport the injured student to hospital via alternative means.

He then reportedly trailed them from behind in his own private vehicle.

According to an anonymous insider at the health facility, this decision might have robbed the student of crucial time that could have made a difference between life and death.

“This choice may have deprived the student of critical moments that could have been life-saving,” noted a source who preferred to remain anonymous.

Police have already launched investigations into the incident.

The body was moved to the same hospital mortuary for postmortem analysis.
