Form one student dies after an alleged assault by teachers

Police in Tinderet, Nandi County are probing the death of Kelvin Kiptanui, a 16 year old Form One student at Chemase Secondary who was allegedly assaulted by the teachers leading to his death.

It is reported that the deceased succumbed to injuries at Nandi- Hills Level 4 Hospital hours after he was admitted in a critical condition.

The late was barely two weeks old at the institution and it is said that he was given corporal punishment by the teachers by simply making references in a Physics textbook in a quiz which was administered on a Friday afternoon.

Nandi County Commissioner, Herman Shambi, has called for a thorough investigation into the incident to fully understand how the incident occurred.

The mother of the deceased said her son was healthy when he left home for school on the fateful morning.

Martin Masika, the school Principal when asked said he had nothing to comment about the incident and that he had handed over the matter to the Ministry of Education and was ready to make a follow up into the matter.
