Form Four students of Maranda High School have been sent home indefinitely after they allegedly threatened to burn the institution on Tuesday evening.
The over 600 candidates were released by the school administration to go back home until further notice and according to one of the teachers who spoke to Education Newspaper but sought anonymity, the students had refused to sit for the internal mock exams and even threatened to burn the school.
The students were sent home following a decision by the school Board of Management that met at the institution following the threats that the students had allegedly issued on Tuesday evening.
The teacher revealed the students had written the threats on the toilets walls, an issue that drew curiosity amongst the other students who then reported the matter to the administration,
Siaya County Director of Education Mr. Nelson Sifuna confirmed that the internal mock exams which were supposed to be done on Monday next week have since been suspended and the students sent home indefinitely.
This comes only two weeks after the students returned from home after the whole school was closed following a dormitory fire on 7th of November 2021.
The incident has also come only three days after the six students who had been arrested in connection with the dormitory fire were set free by Bondo Principal Magistrate’s Court without being charged due to lack of evidence.
