KCSE marks a significant milestone in the lives of many young Kenyans. It is a period filled with anticipation, relief, and a sense of accomplishment. However, it is also a time when students face numerous pressures and decisions about their future. One such pressure is rushing into early marriage, which can be overwhelming for some.

After completing KCSE, students are at a crucial stage of personal growth. This period is an opportunity to explore their interests, pursue higher education or start a career. Rushing into marriage can limit these opportunities and hinder personal development. Taking time to understand oneself and one’s goal can lead to a more fulfilling and balanced life.

The years after completing KCSE are ideal for furthering education and building a career. Whether it’s enrolling in a university, college or vocational training, these opportunities can significantly impact one’s future. Marriage, with its responsibilities and commitments, can make it challenging to focus on education and career advancement.

Financial stability

Prioritising these aspects can lead to a greater financial stability and personal satisfaction in the long run. Marriage is a significant commitment that requires emotional and mental readiness. Young individuals may not yet have the stamina to handle the complexities of married life. Taking time to grow emotionally and mentally can lead to healthier and more stable relationships in the future. In many communities, there is a societal expectation to marry early.

However, succumbing to this pressure can lead to rushed decisions that may not be in one’s best interest. It is important for students to make decisions based on their own readiness and not on societal expectations. Seeking advice from trusted mentors, family members, or counselors can provide valuable perspectives. Marriage comes with financial responsibilities that can be daunting for young individuals who are just starting their careers.

Ensuring financial stability before marriage can reduce stress and contribute to a more harmonious relationship. This stability often comes from pursuing higher education or gaining work experiences which takes time. A strong foundation for marriage is built on mutual understanding, shared goals, and emotional maturity.

Taking time to build this foundation can lead to a more successful and fulfilling marriage. Without this foundation, marriages can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. The period after KCSE is a time for exploration, growth, and self-discovery. While marriage is a beautiful and significant part of life, it should not be rushed into.

Students should take time to pursue their dreams, build their careers and grow emotionally and mentally. By doing so, they can ensure that when they do decide to marry, they are fully prepared for the journey ahead.
