By Agnes Orang’o

A family from Mwanga area in Kathiani sub county of Machakos county is appealing for financial assistance to clear school fees balance for their son who has been home for a while.

Mutinda Wambua, a form four student at Gianchere Friends Secondary/Voc for the Hearing Impaired high in Kisii is deaf and dumb.

His parents, Boniface Wambua and Beatrice Mueni told Education News that their son was sent home two months ago due to a fee balance of Ksh.51,000.

Letter from the school

The mother disclosed that the family survives through income from menial jobs and thus they have been unable to raise the money and are now urging well wishers to offer a helping hand.

“My son who is deaf and dumb was sent home for fees but we have not been able to raise the money. We do menial jobs to make a living and sometimes buying food is a challenge. He is supposed to sit for his final exams this year and we have hit a dead end in finding the money. We would appreciate any help that will come forth so that our son can go back to school and prepare for his exam,” said the mother.

She added that her son performs well in school and it would be a waste for him to stay at home while his classmates continue with studies.

Letter from the area chief

“I have three sons one is married and has his responsibilities I can’t burden him anymore. Then I have Mutinda in form four and another one in form three at Kyaani High school. Mutinda started school in Machakos, passed well and was called to Kisii where he is schooling now,” said the father.

“Yes, he is either position one, two or three. He does his best and it is a shame that he is missing classes,” he said.
