Form 4 leavers in Kisii urged to explore hospitality courses

Form 4 leavers have been urged to join local Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and explore hospitality programmes to equip themselves with skills that will enhance their employability.

Speaking to parents and their children during a sensitization session in Kisii town, Rongo University don Dr. Stephen Momanyi underscored the importance of quality education in the modern competitive world.

“One can steal anything from you but cannot steal knowledge, that is why we are advising our youth to prioritize education,” he said.

He called on waiters in area hotels and bodaboda riders to enroll for programmes of their choice to sharpen their skulls and add value to their livelihoods, reiterating that education has no age limit.

Also in attendance was Tourism Fund (TF) Western Region Manager Enock Chebii, who said that the Fund has trained its first cohort of 140 hotel junior staff who will graduate from Kisii National Polytechnic today.

“We have partnerships with Kisii National Polytechnic, Rongo University and Kenya Utalii University to train our youth so they acquire professional certificates,” he said.

Chebii revealed that the Fund’s board of trustees will continue to offer education bursaries and grants to students willing to pursue courses in the hospitality industry.

Kisii county CECM for Trade, Industry and Tourism Silas Nyabicha. assured parents and their children of support to accomplish their academic aspirations.

His sentiments were echoed by his Nyamira counterpart.Evans Mochumari who claimed that the region has the best tourist destinations and urged scholars and investors to exploit the sleeping giant.
