The stage is set for an exciting Football and Empowerment Day at Wareng High School Grounds in Uasin Gishu County on November 22, where newly crowned regional champions Espodec Starlets will take on Wareng Girls High School in the main fixture of the day.
The event, spearheaded by businesswoman, philanthropist, and sports patron Chemutai Kurgat, will also feature a thrilling curtain-raiser match between the Kipkenyo Grannies and Kingwal Grannies Megun — a friendly encounter expected to blend fun, fitness, and intergenerational inspiration.
Chemutai, the founder of Chemu’z Ankara and Body Shops and WilMar Luxury Apartments in Mombasa, has been instrumental in promoting women’s empowerment through sport.
As the patron of Espodec Starlets, she has guided the Langas-based team from modest beginnings to national recognition, after being crowned the 2025 Upper Rift Women’s Regional League Champions and earning promotion to the Women’s Division 1 League.
“Football is more than a game — it’s a bridge to confidence, discipline, and purpose,” Chemutai said.
Espodec will use the tournament to prepare for the league, while Wareng will use the event in readiness for next year’s school games.
She added, “The Football and Empowerment Day celebrates resilience and shows every girl that her dreams are valid both on and off the field.”
The highly anticipated showdown between Espodec Starlets and Wareng Girls will showcase the best emerging female football talent in the Rift Valley.
She emphasised that the purpose of the event goes far beyond competition, aiming to empower girls beyond the pitch through mentorship, leadership development, and opportunities to thrive in life.

The organisers say the event will also promote mentorship, leadership, and community unity through sport.
Beyond the pitch, the day will include empowerment talks, motivational sessions, and recognition of women who have made outstanding contributions to sports and social change in Uasin Gishu County.
“We want every young girl to see herself as capable — not just in football, but in every aspect of life,” Chemutai added.
She also noted: “Through football, we are nurturing leaders, building confidence, and transforming communities.”
With excitement already building, the Football and Empowerment Day promises to be a celebration of talent, unity, and inspiration — a powerful showcase of women’s strength and the transformative role of sport under the visionary leadership of Chemutai Kurgat.
