Kakamega Sub County director of education Kingora Mwangi has urged students from the region to focus on their education instead of engaging in vices like burning of schools.
Speaking at Rosterman secondary school during the opening of a four classroom building funded by MOHZEL Investment Company, Mwangi said millions of shillings had been spent on constructing schools.
‘MOHZEL and the government have sacrificed a lot. Students should know what brought them to school and utilize school facilities well,’ he said.
MOHZEL investment is a company that prospects in Gold mining. In one of their Corporate Social Responsibility, it funded the construction of classrooms in the school.
He added that when a complete building is burnt to ashes, reconstructing it becomes a burden to parents who are already struggling to raise school fees and cater for other family needs.
“You need to concentrate on your academics which will come in handy in your future life.” The director stated.
Mwangi advised parents to support the school by providing money for lunch and stressed that no student should be sent home for fees because the government takes care of tuition fees.
He urged students to choose their friends wisely and not to engage with bad company who will corrupt them and destroy their future.
The school principal Mrs. Mary Bwate thanked MOHZEL investment for the good gesture and appealed for more infrastructure to cater for the growing student population.
She urged the students to work towards a mean of 4 up from 2.9.
Rosterman is among the six schools in Shirere ward led by MCA David Igunza.
Area chief Benard Muhanji said the school serves Ikolomani, Sichirayi and Shiyunzu areas. He also urged students to work hard in their studies.
