Kisii Diocese Bishop Okemwa Mairura has urged students to steer clear of drugs and bad company and concentrate on their academics aimed at better future.
He said bad company always leads to lapses in education, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and incurable diseases.
The clergy who was speaking at Nyabururu Girls’ National School during the school prize giving event said it was not Godly for teenagers to become Mothers.
“I want you to remain silent a bit and wonder how a child can be a mother of another child.” Said the Bishop.
Okemwa called on the parents and teachers to take the forefront in guiding the young girls towards the right direction of growth and development.
The Bishop was flanked by Fr. Appolinelius Mases who double up as a Board of management Committee Chairman.
He commissioned different development projects in the school including, a water borehole, Laboratory, Several classrooms, hostels and modern school gate.
Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir commended the school Board of management for the prudent use of their funds to accomplish many projects.
He said that the government is committed towards the provision of funds for infrastructure to schools and asked parents to chip in with prompt payment of school fees to enable principals to run their schools seamlessly.
“The government’s money alone cannot be enough to do everything for our schools that is why we ask school boards to involve parents in getting funds to boost what the government’s offers.” He said.
Kisii Catholic Secondary Schools Education Secretary Christopher Osinde thanked the Catholic church for supporting education in the country.
The Chief Principal of the school Mrs. Joyce Orioki Ogutu said the student population has drastically increased from of 1866 in 2018 to currently hosting 2,408 students.
“Due to increased admissions there has been great pressure on the existing facilities.” She said.
“However the administration has struggled to put up structures some of which were commissioned today.” She added.
She revealed the school had a mean score of 8.29 in the 2022 national examinations that inspired them to set the current target of 9.2 with the total candidature of 702 students.
The principal thanked the community for their support in providing a tranquil atmosphere for learning and good security to the school.
She thanked the Ministry of education through CS Ezekiel Machogu for their recent donation of more than 80 computers to boost the schools quest to keep their learners relevant in the ever changing world of Technology.
The prayer cum prize giving Day awarded the 2022 candidates with various gifts that included suitcases, laptops and smartphones.
It was attended by more than 20 Principals from both Kisii and Nyamira Counties led by Chief Principals Charles Onyari and Albert Ombiro of Nyambaria and Cardinal Otunga Mosocho respectively.
