Focus on attaining academic excellence, Egerton University VC tells first year students

First year students in Egerton University received a warm welcome from the University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Isaac Kibwage.

Speaking during the school’s orientation of the new students, The VC assured them that they were at the right place touting the varsity as an institution known worldwide for producing successful people who serve the country and international organizations in various fields.

“If you focus on attaining academic excellence, you will join an endless list of successful scholars who have attained their higher education here and are now productive in specific fields in Kenya, East Africa, Africa and the world at large,” said Prof. Kibwage.

Prof. Kibwage further urged the students to utilize available human and material resources in the institution to ensure they are well equipped with enough knowledge and skills.

“Volunteer at the community to help the needy, plant trees, clean the environment and participate in Christian and spiritual activities,” said the VC.

He warned the students against bad company and engaging in wayward behaviors such as drug abuse and criminal activities and advised them to maintain discipline and dedication in their studies.

“As the University administration we will not entertain any students who abuse drugs. However, we are ready to rehabilitate addicted students so they can revert to their normal selves,” he said.

On matters mental health, the VC advised the students to share their problems with the Guidance & Counselling office for assistance.

On the other hand, the Deputy Vice Chancellor In charge of Academic Affairs Prof. Benard Aduda advised the students to fully concentrate on their academics in their various courses and encouraged them to discover their talents since the University was ready support them.

“The University will help you grow and nurture your dreams but, be serious, use your time well and concentrate on your education by passing all your examinations,” he said.

Speaking at the same event was the Acting Vice Chancellor In charge of Administration, Planning and Development Prof. Richard Mulwa who told the students to ensure they manage their time well.

The event was attended by the Principal of Egerton University Nakuru Town Campus Prof. Joshua Ogendo, Dean of students, Members of the senate, University Governing Council and the Head of Department among others.

Egerton University has ten academic faculties, one school and one institute namely; Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Environment and resources Development, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education & Community Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery, School of Open & Distance learning, and Institute of Women, Gender & Development Studies.
