Kanduyi Sub-county security team, in collaboration with Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and education officials, have confiscated five mobile phones that students sitting the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams had in their possession.

The operation, led by Kanduyi Sub-County Police Commander James Odera, targeted several schools in this part of Bungoma County as part of efforts to ensure the integrity of the national exams.

While the specific schools involved were not disclosed, Odera confirmed that investigations are underway to determine whether the phones contained any exam-related material.

“This operation is part of a larger effort to curb cheating and protect the credibility of our national examinations,” Odera stated. “We are thoroughly examining the confiscated phones to establish if they were being used for malpractice.”

KNEC and education officials lauded the coordinated efforts, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the fairness of the KCSE process. Under Kenyan examination regulations, possession of unauthorized materials, including mobile phones, is strictly prohibited during exams.

Odera  urged school centre managers, parents and students to adhere to exam regulations and warned of severe penalties for anyone found involved in cheating.
