Five girls from Kajiado, Narok go missing as schools reopen

Girls in Kajiado County receive mentorship on life skills. Five girls have disappeared in Kajiado and Narok counties after leaving home for school this term.

Five girls have been reported missing in Kajiado and Narok Counties as schools reopened this week, sparking debate on who should take blame.

Pictures of the five girls were shared on social media between Tuesday and Thursday with people interrogating how they disappeared.

Four of the girls are from Kajiado County; they are girls are from Rombo Girls, Kimuka PCEA, Sikinani School and other schools in the counties.

A guardian reported that her girl who is a student of Kimuka PCEA Girls went missing on Tuesday. She was last seen at 4pm in Ngong town heading to school.

The social media users have questioned safety of girls in the two counties which leads in child marriage and female genital mutilation.

Others inquire if indeed the girls are missing or parents had married them off, while others question why the parents are not accompanying their daughters to school and ensure they report back.

Kapash John said some of the girls may have been married off by the parents and they are hiding them claiming they got lost.

Kajiado County politician Simayiai Rakita castigated those claiming the girls disappeared with their lovers, asking the public to help the family locate them.

Menye Lempiris said it is high time parents started accompanying their children to school.

“Is too unfortunate that school going girls are becoming a target of some bad mannered characters,” he said.

Kishanto Tima wondered why it is only young school girls who are reported missing while boys are not missing.
