First ever KATTI Skills Competition a success

Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutes (KATTI) held its first ever Northern Region TVET fair, robotic and skills competition event which took place at Wote Technical Training Institute.

Speaking during the two-day event, the KATTI National Chairman, Research and Knowledge Management Albert Munane asked students and tutors to focus on competing with the world adding that there will be a training on trainer of trainees to perfect skills before the students proceed to Nationals in May this year.

“We start with regionals then nationals and proceed to continental competitions then other international levels. I’m sure these students will be able to reach most of these levels,” said Munane.

He added that the competition will enable students get international jobs advising them (students) to perfect their skills.

“It’s funny, you know with these innovations and robotics the interviews are just what you can see. Many have earned jobs internationally due to their successful presentations of skills. That is where we are heading,” Munane, who is also Masinga Technical & Vocational College principal, said.

Northern region Chairman Research and Development Joshua Munywoki who is also the principal Wote Technical Training Institute encouraged students and tutors to continue adding value to the items selected to proceed to nationals on TVET fair, robotic and skills competition.

The event brought about 11 institutions including Mulango, Machakos, Ikutha, Kibwezi, David Wambuli, Mwala technical vocational institutes. Then we had Wote and Katine technical training institues as well as North Eastern and Tseikuru national polytechnics.

The institute being the host secured 4 trophies out of 10 and was crowned the overall winner of the competition. Positions two and three were also recognized with certificates but all position ones got trophies.
