Fire destroys dormitory at Munyu Secondary School, displacing 138 students.  

A fierce fire broke out at Munyu Secondary School in Kieni Constituency on Monday, night, completely destroying a dormitory and displacing 138 students.

The blaze, which started around 8:30 p.m, quickly engulfed the building, reducing it to ashes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as all students managed to evacuate safely with the help of teachers and prefects.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly, fueled by bedding and other flammable materials. Efforts by staff, students, and locals to contain the fire were unsuccessful, and by the time firefighters arrived, the dormitory had been entirely consumed.

Parents expressed concern over the loss of personal items and called for improved safety measures in schools.

The school has begun efforts to accommodate the displaced students, with help from local churches, the Kenya Red Cross, and well-wishers. Despite the setback, the administration stated that learning would continue with necessary adjustments.

This incident adds to growing concerns over fire safety in boarding schools across the country, with education stakeholders urging stricter safety protocols and better emergency preparedness.
