Over 15,000 year 2021 KCSE candidates who qualified to join university have not applied for placement as the window of application closes today.

This means that should they fail to beat the deadline, they will not be able to get government sponsorship and scholarships through its various funding outlets with Higher Education Loans Board leading the pack.

By yesterday, out of the 144,000 who made the C+ cut, only 128,000 had submitted their online applications with the remaining 15,754 unknown if they are still interested in taking up their slots.

“The applications are at 90 percent. We want to encourage those who have not tendered their applications to do so to be considered for government sponsorship,” said Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Dr Mercy Wahome.

The window for applications was opened on Tuesday and closes today 5PM. This third and last chance targets those whose subject combinations did not meet the requirements of their four first choice courses.

The final placements will be released towards the end of the month as the commencement of the September academic calendar approaches. This will give ample time parents and students to prepare financially, psychologically and materially for the next chapter of academic life.

It was good news for those wishing to join TVETs as Dr Wahome announced government sponsorship of those who did their KCSE between 2000 and 2021. This is to ensure no one is locked out of vocational and technical training.

It is conjectured that in this group that has reneged university placement are those who have opted for these technical courses.
