Makueni County Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Chairman, Erastus Kimetu (Brigadier), has cautioned teachers and coaches against fielding ineligible players in school games, warning that the consequences are dire.

“Imagine being interdicted, your school banned from competitions for three years, and other serious penalties, just because of using imposters in a school team. Is it worth it?” Kimetu posed.

Speaking during the Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS) County-level ball games at Sultan Hamud Primary School, Kimetu urged school principals to fully sponsor their teams to ensure learners are given a fair platform to showcase their talents.

He also called on education officials responsible for coaches’ and referees’ allowances to ensure the funds are paid as agreed.

“Referees and coaches are the backbone of any successful game. Without them, and the players, nothing can happen. Let’s respect and reward them accordingly,” he said.

Touching on recent political interference in schools, Kimetu expressed solidarity with the teachers of St. Peter’s School in Kisumu following an incident where Kisumu East Member of Parliament allegedly insulted a teacher in front of students, teachers, and parents.

“That MP humiliated a teacher in public. We won’t tolerate such behavior. Leaders must respect educators and stay in their lane,” he stated firmly.

He concluded by urging MPs to focus on increasing capitation for schools rather than intimidating teachers and shaming them publicly.
