The field officers have raised concern over intense pressure on retooling and recruitment as Teachers Service Commission (TSC) decline to reschedule the two exercises for the recruitment of 9,159 teacher replacement vacancies across the country that were advertised by the Commission, and are both expected to commence at the same day, December 8, 2025.

According to the Commission the two exercises are supposed to go on concurrently under the direct supervision of the TSC Sub-County Directors, a position that has placed a lot of pressure on them with some raising concerns that even the facilitation to carry out the exercise is delayed.

The retooling exercise which initially was being conducted by the Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) will this time be carried out by the SCDs, involving a total of 30,000 senior school teachers and 24,000 junior School Intern teachers.

The SCDs had initially requested the Commission through its Director of Staffing Antonina Lentoijoni to reschedule the document verification exercise for recruitment of 9,159 teacher replacement vacancies to start on December 3,so that they can have enough time to attend to retooling exercise, a move TSC headquarters declined.

“I have just had a phone conversation with Director Staffing over the possibility of having verification of documents brought forward to start on December 3, 2025 as was being requested by some colleagues. The answer is: NO! Let’s follow the roadmap that states that the selection process begins on December 08, 2025,” read a communiqué delivered by the SCDs National Chairman B.K. Orwasa through their forum.

“As for Retooling, she has advised that we delegate but take charge. In this case, you can pick a strong Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) to represent you at the TOTs’ training, a Teacher Champion and the Sub County QASO. You are the Lead Person in the Retooling in your Sub County and so, even as you delegate some activities because of being engaged in recruitment, please make your presence and leadership felt. Attend the opening ceremony and give directions, then go back to recruitment. The two programmes must run concurrently and successfully,” the communiqué added.

The officers have now expressed frustration, claiming that their matter and concerns raised is not being heard by their employer, TSC.
