Fear has engulfed the West Pokot County following a series of child abductions in recent times.

Two weeks ago, residents of the Bendera area demonstrated and barricaded the busy Kapenguria- Lodwar road for three days following the discovery of a child’s body in a bush in what was believed to be an act of cannibalism.

Several other parents had reported the disappearance of their children.

And before the dust could settle down,  a grade 8 learner at Chewoyet Comprehensive  School was abducted at their home in Ng’ombe Moja -Rainbow area as he went to relieve himself in the toilet at night.

Alvin Kimtai requested a torch from her mother on Sunday night to go to the toilet, but she never returned to the house.

As time passed, the search by members of his family and neighbours began, but to no avail.

By good luck, the boy was found on the roadside by good Samaritans who had finished watching a final football match between Chelsea FC and PSG FC on Sunday night.

The good Samaritans reported the matter to the police station before the boy was taken to the hospital, as he was unconscious.

Speaking to Education News at the school after the unfortunate incident, Alvin Kimtai’s Grade 8 teacher said that the other younger brothers of Alvin now fear coming to school, including some learners in other grades ”

Her sentiments were echoed by Madam Hellen Kokita, the school’s senior teacher, and Madam Ruth Lokapel, a staff member.

Madam Abimahel Moraa, the Grade 8 class teacher.

“The security of learners at home and school is paramount; therefore, I urge all the stakeholders, including the Nyumba kumi, security personnel and parents, to step up the security of children and learners in the County,” said Ken Wekesa Kuywa, the Head Of Institution (HOI) of  Chewoyet Comprehensive School.
