Fathers must be involved in their children’s education, Katwanyaa Secondary School principal David Muange has said.
He pointed out that most fathers are unable to bond with their children, especially boys.
Consequently, the children have no one to turn to when having issues affecting them.
“Children open up because the atmosphere is friendly. It’s not enough to provide basic needs,” said the principal, suggesting that parents can create that atmosphere outdoors during play and outings.
He noted that most of the time when parents have meetings in school, 90 per cent of attendees are mothers and the rest are uncles and aunties.
“That is why sometimes we are forced to call the male parents when things get tough. Don’t be shocked when we tell you that most of them don’t even know what class their children are or even if they have been attending school,” he submitted.
The same sentiments were shared by Anglican Church of Kenyan Bishop Joseph Mutungi, who said that children fail to perform when there are issues arising from their relationships at home.
