Makueni education stakeholders held a colorful farewell party for outgoing TSC County Director, Alex Cheruiyot who was recently promoted to head Eastern region.

During the party that was held in one of the Makueni hotels, speakers expressed their love and admiration for the loving, tough, ruthless, and friendly man who worked with them for two good years.

Teachers’ representatives led by union leaders from KNUT, KUPPET, KESSHA, KEPSHA, incoming TSC County Director and the TSC Sub-county Directors, the Education Director and Sub-county counterpart, area MP and friends attended the party.

KESSHA chairman for Makueni County, Julius Mutwii, described the exiting TSC Director as man of integrity, firm, fair and humble leader who masters his assignment well.

“As principals, we have benefitted a lot from him by the way he dispenses knowledge to us. He is a person who could attend to us even during the late hours in office when he is supposed to be resting, such a dedicated man who deserves more promotions,” Mutwii said.

KNUT Executive Secretary, Benson Ndambuki noted that they will miss him in matters of union since he has been very natural and has one face while addressing issues.

He welcomed the incoming Director, informing her that they work as a team in the county for the betterment of the learning.

KUPPET Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu described Cheruiyot as tough, fair and principled, saying that he always had second thoughts and could easily find solutions.

“He always supported our union very well and guided us where necessary. We have nothing more other than wishing you the best of the best,” added Kimeu.

Eastern Regional KEPSHA Chairman who is also Makueni County Chairman, Nichodemus Musyoka termed him as a person who allowed teachers to work freely.

County Director of Education, James Gachugi, welcomed the incoming director with open arms. He revealed that Cheruiyot has been his friend and that they worked together with much ease.

Makueni Sub-county Director of Education, Yophes Magara observed that being a regional director is not a walk in the park. He remarked that everyone has a chance to leave a mark in their place of work.

“You are always a down to earth person, go even higher,” Magara told Cheruiyot.

Makueni TSC Sub-county Director, Edward Zani noted that he worked closely with his boss and that they used to consult and he guide him (Zani) always.

“He taught me more on being patient. A very humane boss he was, you can imagine before sending a show cause letter to any teacher, he will alert the affected then handover the letter, the teachers were never got by surprise,” Zani disclosed.

Area MP Susan Kiamba said he worked with him for a few months and Cheruiyot touched her heart. He termed him as a listener, not full of himself.

“He is a director who when promoted, everybody celebrates,” Kiamba.

Having welcomed the incoming, she told her the yardstick used to measure a man, is different from that of a woman and she should embrace the challenge to do even better.

The exiting director promised to work even harder for the teachers and education fraternity since he will still be their immediate boss.

“I will work with you to the best of my ability. We have always consulted and worked together for the common denominator, Kenyan child,” said Cheruiyot.

He welcomed the new director with open arms terming her as a suitable replacement for him.

He reminded her that education is the ‘cash crop’ in the county and serving them to the best of her knowledge will be the only best thing.

He called upon other education leaders to be ready to listen to each other since listening is half of a problem solved.

Cheruiyot observed that people should be willing to learn always since the world is changing fast.

The incoming director said Cheruiyot will be his immediate supervisor and that she will rely much on him as she dispenses her duties in the county.

“I am grateful for the warm welcome. I am happy and ready to work with you. I cannot fit in the big shoes of my outgoing boss, but I will wear mine and achieve the best,” Mwangi said.

She wished her boss well in his new roles assuring him that those of them below him will try all they can to make his work easier.
