Fare hiked as students set to resume school

By Vostine Ratemo

As a number of students were returning to schools following the end of half-term break, city terminals were packed with a lot of people and fares hiked.

This is quite the opposite of what we witnessed yesterday as the Azimio La Umoja coalition supporters took to the streets to demonstrate over the high cost of living among other things putting a lot of activities and businesses to a standstill.

Majority of the parents who had accompanied their children to bus stages were taken aback due to the hiked fare which have tripled in a span of just 24 hours.

As in the case of Catherine, a mother of two St. Augustine Mwea Boys High School found herself in a difficult situation after the taut quoted a sum of Sh 1,000 for each child as bus fare an opposite of Sh250 she used to pay as fare from Nairobi to Mwea.

Nonetheless, majority of students, especially those residing in Nairobi are yet to report to school over concern of their security.

The students are set to kick off the second face of term one which will run up to April 22, 2023.
