Family remains hopeful as KU student still missing 10 years later

The family of the missing Kenyatta University Education student still clings on the undying hopes that one day they will reunite with their son who went missing in 2015, 10 years now down the line.

According to the reports, on January, 28 2015, it was a normal day for final-year Bachelor’s of Education student Isaac Musili of Kenyatta University. He stepped out, informing his then-roommate, Joshua Munuve, that he would return later, but he never came back.

That evening Munuve said Musili told him he was too drunk to go back to their Ruiru hostel and would instead spend the night at a relative’s home in Huruma. The relative, Geoffrey Mukala, later told investigators he had parted ways with Musili at about 5pm that day.

When Musili failed to show up the next day, family members tried to reach him. His phone was initially unreachable before it was switched on the following afternoon. Joshua received an automated message indicating the line had been reactivated.

When his family called, a man who identified himself as a police officer at Kariobangi Police Station answered and told them Musili had been arrested after a brawl, instructing them to bring his identification documents to secure his release. Officers at Kariobangi and other nearby stations later denied holding anyone by that name.

The family filed a missing-person report at Kasarani Police Station on 29th January 2015. CID now DCI officers traced signals from Musili’s phone to Huruma and later Baba Dogo.

The student’s both lines remained active after his disappearance and the family received threatening messages demanding money, heightening fears of abduction.

His family says follow-up has been slow and inconsistent. Despite early leads and repeated appeals to police, there has been no confirmed sighting, arrest or recovery linked to Musili.

More than a decade on, his disappearance remains unresolved. He is one among many disappeared without trace cases in Kenya.

The family now continues to hope that one day he will walk into their home and reunite once again even though they remain darkness on the whereabouts of their son or even what transpired.
