Residents of Sina in West Pokot County have been placed on high alert after a landslide struck the area on Monday night, following hours of intense rainfall.
The landslide, which swept through several farms, left seven families homeless and destroyed tens of acres of crops.
An unknown number of livestock were also lost in the incident.
Confirming the event, Area Chief Francis Mariongor said the affected families are now in urgent need of support.
“We are working with the county government to assist the displaced families. They are in need of food, bedding, and other non-food items,” said Chief Mariongor.
He urged residents living in landslide-prone zones to move to safer ground as the rains continue to pound the region.

“We are likely to witness more landslides if the rains persist. I advise people in high-risk areas to relocate temporarily for their safety,” he warned.
The West Pokot County disaster response unit has already deployed a team to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate emergency interventions.
Although no fatalities were reported, the landslide has raised concerns about the long-term safety of residents in the hilly region.
In a bid to prevent future disasters, Mariongor called on locals to take environmental conservation seriously.
“We urge residents to plant trees in their farms. Tree roots help hold the soil together and reduce the risk of mudslides,” he said.
The county government is expected to issue further advisories as weather conditions evolve, with the Kenya Meteorological Department predicting continued rainfall in the region over the coming days.
