Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions will resume face to face learning on May 10, 2021 for completion of 2020/2021 academic calendar.

In a circular dated May 4, 2021 to all Principals, Heads and Managers, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Vocational and Technical Training Margaret Mwakima said all National Polytechnics, Technical Training Institutes, Institutes of Technology, Technical and Vocational Colleges, and Vocational and Training Centres will resume learning from Monday May 10, 2021 to May 21, 2021 which will be two weeks to complete second term.

According to the calendar, third term will commence on May 24, 2021 to July 30, 2021, which will be a ten week programme; with Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) examinations July series being slated to start from August 2, 2021 to August 27, 2021.

Mwakima has further directed all the institutions to comply with all the Covid-19 health protocols, continue with online training for non-technical courses in order to comply with social distancing, and  give priority to practical training during this period.

“The State Department will continue to make spot checks on Institutions’ compliance to Covid-19 protocols; any failure will lead to suspension of operations in the particular institution including action on management,” said Mwakima in the circular.

President Uhuru Kenyatta suspended face to face learning in all educational institutions, including universities and tertiary and vocational colleges in late March to curb the third wave of Covid-19.
