The last years Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examiners have now demanded payment for their work in two days.

Omboko Milemba, the Chairman of Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) said more than 50,000 examiners are yet to receive their salaries and urged the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to pay the dues by the end of this month failure to which they will occupy the council`s office.

Milemba said that poor conditions have remained unaddressed for a long time that examination marking has become a challenge for some of the country`s best teachers.

He said that KNEC owes the examiners money at a time where majority of Kenyans are struggling with economic constraints and the sum could be useful to them especially those that have children in school and paying school fees has been a challenge and the sum would alleviate their suffering.

“Given that teachers` salaries are low, having not been reviewed for three years, while others face acute stagnation in the same job group, the examiners have suffered enough and will not stomach any further delay of the payments from KNEC,” he concluded.
